HSG Test – Hysterosalpingogram

An HSG test is a procedure to assess whether the Fallopian tubes are open.

To fall pregnant, the tubes need to be open to allow the sperm of the father to fertilise the egg of the mother. If the tubes are blocked, this cannot happen and pregnancy will not result.

An HSG test is performed a few days after menstrual bleeding has cleared.

How is the HSG test performed?

The test is slightly painful but most patients cope quite well.

No anesthetic is given.
